Testimonials

I struggle with rib, back and knee pain sustained from a fall.  A friend recommended taking Julie’s ‘Yoga for Resilience’ class as part of my journey back to better health.  Julie is deeply respectful and presents options to move through the practice while honoring our injuries and limitations.  Each week I look forward to her guidance through a mindfulness practice at the beginning of class that sets the tone for me to release the stresses of the day, invite my body and mind to relax, merge and fully engage in class.  Julie’s nurturing and gifted teaching style has inspired me to adopt a daily yoga and mindfulness practice as my body continues to heal.

Julie offers a yoga class that does the trick in so many ways. Physically, classes let you explore your body and do what is right for you. But underneath that there is a deep understanding of the science of wellness, which every class incorporates. And most importantly, there are nuggets of wisdom — whether breathing techniques, meditation practices, or poses themselves — that I take home and use daily in my life that help so much in being human.

After more than two years practicing yoga with Julie, I am benefiting from the calm and deep practice of breathing and resting in the moment. Julie’s sensibility creates a nurturing space that holds the yogis in the room (or zoom) together in our community of practice. Her guidance encourages my own creativity, encourages feedback, and listens even to the silence. Julie is genuine, caring, and kind in her sharing of her practice. The practice intentionally weaves together the heart and breath while gliding through supportive poses, calming my anxious nervous system. I feel refreshed, strong and grounded. Always enjoying the time spent, I look forward to it each week.

In the depths of the pandemic, I had the healing experience of attending Julie Woodward’s workshop: “Embodied Resilience in Uncertain Times”. Her approach is fashioned after from Joanna Macy’s “The Work That Reconnects”. Macy advocates and describes the means to “transform despair and overwhelm into inspired collaborative action.”
The workshop, as Julie put it, was “designed to support participants in cultivating the skills to stay centered during times of turmoil and to enhance resilience a we connect to the community” – quite an undertaking. I wondered how this could be accomplished in four sessions with a group of total strangers.
It lived up to its promises. Each session included meditation, a lecture, discussion, and yoga/mindful movement. Julie eloquently explained the goal of each session and invited the sharing of personal thoughts and feelings. Because she is such a talented facilitator, we all became comfortable taking part in these discussions. Each of us hoped for future guidance from Julie, of this practice.
